  2   O tempo verbal past perfect continuous forma-se da seguinte maneira:
 
HAD BEEN  -ING
 
onde HAD BEEN = verbo auxiliar be no past perfect
e -ING = verbo principal terminado em -ing (ex. reading, writing)
 
(a) Na negativa, adiciona-se NOT a seguir ao HAD.
 
(b) Na interrogativa, invertem-se o HAD e o sujeito.

 

  3   Emprega-se o past perfect continuous para descrever:
 
 
(a) uma série de acções repetidas do passado. Não especifica o número de vezes que essas acções se desenrolam nem o seu resultado em quantidade:
