1   O CONDITIONAL TYPE 1 emprega-se para exprimir uma condição muito provável no presente ou no futuro.

 
 
 

2   A forma básica do CONDITIONAL TYPE 1 é:

 

IF + PRESENT + WILL

isto é,

IF + PRESENT SIMPLE + FUTURE SIMPLE

Exemplo:

• If he comes, I will show him the book.

• Se ele vier, mostrar-lhe-ei o livro.

 
 
 

3   Além da utilização do PRESENT SIMPLE na oração condicional IF-CLAUSE, pode-se também empregar a seguir ao IF:

 

(a) outras formas verbais no presente:
IF	+	PRESENT 'BE' PRESENT 'THERE+BE' PRESENT SIMPLE PRESENT CONTINUOUS PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS	+	FUTURE SIMPLE
Exemplos:
• If I am hungry, I will let you know.
• Se eu estiver com fome, avisar-lhe-ei.
• If there is a problem, I will call you.
• Se houver algum problema, chamar-lhe-ei.
• If you leave early, you will catch the train.
• Se saíres cedo, apanharás o comboio.
• If she is not studying right now, I will tell her off.
• Se ela não estiver a estudar neste momento, vou ralhar com ela.
• If he has done the homework, I will buy him an ice cream.
• Se ele tiver feito os trabalhos de casa, comprar-lhe-ei um gelado.
• If you have been studying for hours, you will need a rest.
• Se tens andado a estudar durante horas, precisarás de   descanso.

 

(b) e verbos modais CAN e MUST:
IF	+	CAN MUST	+	FUTURE SIMPLE
Exemplos:
• If I can come to the party, I will let you know.
• Se eu puder vir à festa, avisar-lhe-ei.
• If I must stay at home, I will give you a ring.
• Se eu tiver que estar em casa, telefonar-lhe-ei.

 
 
 

4   Além da utilização do FUTURE SIMPLE na oração principal MAIN CLAUSE, pode-se também empregar:

 

(a) outras formas verbais no futuro:
IF	+	PRESENT SIMPLE	+	FUTURE 'GOING TO' FUTURE SIMPLE FUTURE CONTINUOUS FUTURE PERFECT SIMPLE FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS
Exemplos:
• If the weather is fine tomorrow, I am going to play tennis.
• Se o tempo estiver bom amanhã, vou jogar ténis.
• If I see her, I will tell her.
• Se eu a vir, dir-lhe-ei.
• If I go to the disco tomorrow, I will be dancing all night long.
• Se eu for à discoteca amanhã, ficarei a dançar durante toda a   noite.
• If you don't hurry, the train will have left before you get there.
• Se não apressares, o comboio terá partido antes de tu lá   chegares.
• If I stay in this country till next year, I will have been living here for   five years.
• Se eu permanecer neste país até ao ano que vem, fará cinco   anos a minha permanência cá.
